The Houston Astros finalized a 3-year, $16.5M deal with 2nd baseman Kaz Matsui. Matsui will add much needed speed to the Houston lineup, especially behind newly acquired center fielder Michael Bourne, who Houston got in a deal with Philadelphia in exchange for former closer Brad Lidge.
Astros' GM Ed Wade said about Matsui, ""Kaz is an ideal fit for our club,'' said Wade. "Kaz runs extremely well. He steals bases, moves runners and takes the extra base. He plays the game the right way.''
Matsui spent the last 2 seasons with the National League Champion Colorado Rockies, before that in New York with the Mets.
