Padres "deep in talks" with Pirates

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Padres and Pirates are discussing a deal that would have Jason Bay as the center piece. The players involved from the Pirates could be Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Matt Morris, Nate McLouth and Ronny Paulino, a combination of probably 3 with Bay included.

The Padres could offer Michael Barrett and possibly top prospect Chase Headley, though Kevin Towers has turned down deals with Headley involved before. If the Padres can make this deal without Headley involved, they'll be much more inclined to pull the trigger.

As the details come down, we'll get them udpated.
