Congress wants to meet with Clemens on Jan. 26th

According to an AP report, Roger Clemens was asked to appear in front of congress, in regards to the Mitchell Report, on January 26th.

Letters were sent to Clemens, Brian McNamee and 3 others on Friday by Oversight Committee Chairman Henry Waxman and Republican Tom Davis.

Part of the letter to Clemens said the following, "The committee asks that you provide testimony about allegations in Senator George Mitchell's report ... that you and other Major League Baseball players used performance enhancing drugs during your professional baseball career."

I'm not saying that Clemens did take steroids or HGH, but if he did and he admitted as much after the story broke, would the story be as big as it is now? Would the media still be asking Clemens about it, would there have been a "60 Minutes" interview? I guess we'll never know.

Clemens faces the media

For the first time since being accused of taking steroids, Roger Clemens faced the media this afternoon. He surprised everyone by playing a 17 minute, taped, phone conversation between himself and former training Brian McNamee.

After the taped conversation, Clemens took questions from the media, but cut the press conference short after being asked about the Hall of Fame, saying "Do you think I played my career because I'm worried about the damn Hall of Fame?" "You keep your vote. I don't need the Hall of Fame to justify that I put my butt on the line and I worked my tail off, and I defy anybody to say I did it by cheating or taking any shortcuts, OK?"

Clemens, Pettitte asked to testify before Congress

According to an AP Report, Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte as well as ex-trainer Brian McNamee and former Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski, have been asked to testify before the a congressional committee on January 16th.

Also asked to speak in front of Congress was former Yankee Chuck Knoblauch.


If you didn't think stuff was going to hit the fan before, this should change your mind. Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee Round 1...this should be fun.

Yankees will not sign Clemens in 2008

Not that this is comes as a surprise to a lot of people, but during a telephone interview yesterday with NY Daily News writer Anthony McCarron, Yankees' Senior VP Hank Steinbrenner says the Yankees will not sign Roger Clemens if he plays in 2008.

I can't imagine that Clemens would attempt to play in 2008, especially with the Mitchell Report hanging over him. I think it's time for him to step away from the playing stage and begin his 2nd career in the Houston Astros' organization.

Clemens issues video denial

Roger Clemens, for the first time since being accused of taking HGH, issued a video statement from his personal website. Clemens strongly denied taking HGH or that anyone injected anything into his body.

Clemens will make his first national TV appearance on this subject with CBS' Mike Wallace of "60 Minutes" sometime next year.

On the same subject, San Diego Padres pitcher, and 2007 NL Cy Young Award Winner, Jake Peavy defended Clemens, calling him a "friend and mentor."

Schilling speaks on Roger Clemens

If I'm Curt Schilling, I'd be careful of what dog I choose to mess with, especially if that dog is Roger Clemens.

Schilling, posting on his website 38pitches.com, believes that if Clemens did in fact take performance enhancing drugs, that his 4 Cy Young Awards should be stripped and given to the rightful winner.

"From that point on the numbers were attained through using [performance-enhancing drugs]. Just like I stated about Jose Canseco, if that is the case with Roger, the four Cy Youngs should go to the rightful winners, and the numbers should go away if he cannot refute the accusations."

Clemens said yesterday, in a statement through his agent, that he didn't want people rushing to judgement....I guess Schill missed that part of the statement.

Breaking News: Roger Clemens named in Mitchell Report

ESPN is reporting that Andy Pettite's name is also on that report.

With Pettite recently signing the 1-year $16M contract with the Yankees, there's definetely going to be a suspension coming down the pike if this holds up.

According to ESPN, the Mitchell Report will name Roger Clemens in the report. According to a former New York Yankee trainer, Roger Clemens had taken steroids prior to his first stint as a Yankee.
