According to the AP, the Detroit Tigers and 3rd baseman Miguel Cabrera have come to a prelimnary agreement on an 8-year $153.2M contract.
The details of the deal are not yet final. In January, Cabrera agreed to a $11.3M deal with the Tigers for the 2008 season, so Cabrera will get an additional $141M over the next 7 years.

Cabrera signs 1-year deal with Detroit
Jason Beck of MLB.com checks in, reporting that Miguel Cabrera has signed a 1-year $11.3M deal on Friday, avoiding arbitration.
Cabrera, along with teammate Dontrelle Willis, was dealt to Detroit during Baseball's Winter Meetings in Nashville last month.

Inge to stay in Detroit?
According to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News, 3rd baseman Brandon Inge could remain in Detroit for the 2008 season, even though he's been displaced by newly acquired Miguel Cabrera.
Even though Inge has asked to be traded, Tigers' GM Dave Dombrowki has said that he'll wait for the appropriate trade to move him.
One team that could still be looking for a 3rd baseman are the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels seem content to have Chone Figgins start at the hot corner, but he's not exactly known as the best defensive 3rd baseman. The one thing that could hold up trading Inge, the Tigers signed an extension with him prior to the 2007 season, so he's still owed $19.1M through 2010.

Willis headed to the Mets?
The Tigers made the biggest trade, during the recently concluded Winter Meetings in Nashville, by landing Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from Florida. Since that deal was made, there's been speculation that Willis could be flipped to the Mets.
According to Adam Rubin of the NY Daily News, the Tigers and Mets have not talked as of yet, but Omar Minaya has talked about Willis in the past and has expressed his interest in acquiring him. The problem that the Mets face is, the Tigers may ask for Jose Reyes, who the Mets have deemed "untouchable".

Dodgers still having talks with Andruw Jones?

Have talks between the Dodgers and the agent for Andruw Jones been revived? According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the Dodgers met with Jones' agent, Scott Boras, at the Winter Meetings today, but nothing is close.
Dodgers' GM Ned Colletti is willing to offer a short-term contract to Jones, but Boras is looking for the same type of contract that the Dodgers offered J.D. Drew a few years ago.
Also, the Dodgers were said to be in the running for Marlins' 3rd baseman Miguel Cabrera, but did not want to give up three top players (rumored to be Clayton Kershaw, Matt Kemp, Jonathan Broxton and Andy LaRoche).

Contrary to earlier reports, the Dodgers never had an offer out to Andruw Jones and they have also said "no thanks" to Aaron Rowand.
Dodgers' GM Ned Colletti has not closed the door all the way on Jones, but he does say that the Dodgers never submitted a contract offer for the free agent center fielder.Jones' agent, Scott Boras, is rumored to be asking for a 5-year $90M deal.
The Dodgers have also said that Aaron Rowand is asking for more than they're willing to pay. The free agent center fielder is apparently asking for 5-years, $70M

Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera are headed to....the Tigers? What happened to the Angels package for Cabrera?
According to Peter Gammons of ESPN, the Tigers swooped in with a package of outfielder Cameron Maybin, pitcher Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and minor league pitchers Eulogio De La Cruz, Dallas Trahern and Burke Badenhop.
Did anyone see the Tigers coming on this one?

According to Dave Van Dyck, though the White Sox don't have the strongest package (Josh Fields), mananger Ozzie Guillen is good friends with the young hitter and the Sox have already made calls to Florida inquiring about what it would take to land him.
If they do have enough to land him, they still have to find a team willing to take current 3rd baseman Joe Crede.

Giants, Angels interested in Miguel Tejada
Do any of us remember, in 2003, when Orioles' GM Jim Beattie and Mike Flanagan walked up to the podium after just signing then free agent Miguel Tejada? How did that work out for them?
Going into the Winter Meetings this week, the Orioles look to find a trading partner for Tejada and they may find a suiter with the Giants or Angels. The Orioles may wait to see how the negotiations go with the Angels and Marlins regarding Miguel Tejada before approaching the Angels about their interest in the shortstop.
The Giants interest, on the other hand, is curious to me because they already signed Omar Vizquel to an extension, unless they plan on moving Tejada to 3rd.
