Edmonds training with LA SWAT?

According to Dan Hays of the North County Times, San Diego Padres' CF Jim Edmonds wanted to find a way to get his strength and agility back.

The direction he chose was a little out of the ordinary, but according to Edmonds his leg strength has increased 300%, feeling faster and more agile than he has in previous years.

Jim Edmonds wanted a more rigorous offseason training program and he got all he bargained for and a whole lot more. Former Cardinal teammate Skip Schumacher gave him the name Jim Moss. Moss is a 3-year veteran of the Los Angeles SWAT team and is also a personal trainer in the Dana Point area.

This was unlike anything Edmonds has ever experienced, calling it "brutal", also saying "Moss told me most guys don't make it back for the third workout. We were running right away. The lifting was ridiculous. Every day I walked in, he shook his head like, 'I can't believe you're back."

Time will tell whether this training program will bring Edmonds back to where he was in his hay day and can keep him healthy for 162 games. The Padres could definetely use his power and speed.

Cameron, Padres part ways

Prior to the Padres landing Jim Edmonds, the agent for Mike Cameron (Mike Nicotera) called off the negotiations with San Diego. The two sides agreed on 2 years but were far apart on the dollar amount.

“In the end we were just not able to reach agreement with the Padres,” agent Mike Nicotera said. “They are moving in another direction as are we. There was just never a meeting of the minds with him. It was certainly amicable.”

The teams interested in Cameron include the White Sox, Twins, Rangers, Brewers, Phillies, and Braves. Ken Rosenthal checks in on the same subject and adds the Cardinals, Reds, and Yankees as possibilities as well.

Padres deal for Edmonds

The Padres, needing to fill their vacant center field position, chose former Angel and now former Cardinal Jim Edmonds. The Padres dealt minor league 3rd baseman David Freese to St. Louis for Edmonds, he had no problem waiving his no-trade clause to return to Southern California.

The addition of Edmonds means that Mike Cameron will sign elsewhere. From what I've heard, the Texas Rangers could be where he ends up.

Padres serious players for Fukudome?

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the San Diego Padres have become serious players for Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome. If the Padres land him, they could consider him a replacement for their CF'er last season, Mike Cameron.

Also, there's talks that if the Padres land Fukudome, they could also make a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals for center fielder Jim Edmonds, allowing them to move Fukudome to left field.

Padres still talking to the Cardinals about Edmonds?

Previously mentioned in the San Diego Union Tribune, the Padres have interest in acquiring Cardinals CF'er Jim Edmonds. According to Jim Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Edmonds has a full no-trade clause but would waive it for a Southern California team only.

Knowing that, you have to look at the Dodgers and Angels, but neither team has any interest or have talked to the Cardinals about Edmonds, which leaves the San Diego Padres, who have confirmed having talks regarding the center fielder.

The question I have about this possible trade is, who would be heading to St. Louis in the deal? From the article posted, the Cardinals are looking for pitching, but I can't imagine the Padres would give up any of their top pitching prospects to acquire an aging outfielder that's past his prime.

Both teams are expected to check into registration late this afternoon in Nashville, so we'll see if these talks progress over the next 3-4 days.
