Mets, Reds after Erik Bedard
Reds Insider John Fay reports that the Reds are going hard after Orioles' ace Erik Bedard. The rumor is the Reds could be offering Homer Bailey, Joey Votto and one other player, though the Orioles could ask for Jay Bruce to be the 3rd player, the Reds don't want to give him up however.
The Mets offer is Aaron Heilman, Carlos Gomez and Philip Humber though the Orioles rejected the offer, according to Marty Noble of MLB.com
Cardinals talking to Dodgers, Giants about Rolen
Talks between the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers have cooled because the Cardinals are a little wary of trading Rolen within their own division.
In the meantime, the Cardinals have begun talks with the Giants and Dodgers about Rolen and could complete a deal with either team before the end of the Winter Meetings on Thursday.

The Braves acquired pitcher Will Ohman and infielder Omar Infante from the Cubs for pitcher Jose Ascanio.

Padres finalize contract with Jake Peavy
The San Diego Padres finalized the 3-year extension for right-hander, and 2007 NL Cy Young Award Winner, Jake Peavy. Peavy will make $15M in 2010, $16M in 2011 and $17M in 2012...oh did I mention there's a $22M option for 2013?

According to Dave Van Dyck, though the White Sox don't have the strongest package (Josh Fields), mananger Ozzie Guillen is good friends with the young hitter and the Sox have already made calls to Florida inquiring about what it would take to land him.
If they do have enough to land him, they still have to find a team willing to take current 3rd baseman Joe Crede.

With Aaron Rowand asking for a 5-year deal, there aren't a lot of teams that are willing to give that many years to a 30-year old.
The Phillies could be willing to overpay for a 3-year deal for the free agent center fielder. The other teams interested are the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, but both teams have said they are unwilling to go more than 3 years.

Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Padres could deal for a starter before the end of the Winter Meetings. The 2 names mentioned are the Cubs' Mark Prior and Blue Jays' Josh Towers, who the Padres tried to acquire before last year's trading deadline.
Mark Prior is a very close neighbor of Padres' GM Kevin Towers and has made it well known that he would like to pitch for the Padres, but you have to wonder about Prior's health and ability to stay healthy for even half a season.

Dodgers pull out of Jones, Rowand negotiations

Contrary to earlier reports, the Dodgers never had an offer out to Andruw Jones and they have also said "no thanks" to Aaron Rowand. Dodgers' GM Ned Colletti has not closed the door all the way on Jones, but he does say that the Dodgers never submitted a contract offer for the free agent center fielder.
Jones' agent, Scott Boras, is rumored to be asking for a 5-year $90M deal.
The Dodgers have also said that Aaron Rowand is asking for more than they're willing to pay. The free agent center fielder is apparently asking for 5-years, $70M

MLB.com's Corey Brock was in the suite for the San Diego Padres and talked to GM Kevin Towers. Towers confirmed the Padres interest in Japanese free agent outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, but also said that by the time the Padres' caravan leaves the Winter Meetings on Thursday, that they could have an outfielder signed. Could that mean the Padres are close to a deal with Fukudome? One problem, he hasn't said whether he will make the jump to the Major League or accept a 4-year $20M deal from the Tokyo Giants.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the San Diego Padres have become serious players for Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fukudome. If the Padres land him, they could consider him a replacement for their CF'er last season, Mike Cameron.
Also, there's talks that if the Padres land Fukudome, they could also make a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals for center fielder Jim Edmonds, allowing them to move Fukudome to left field.
